I am 15 and am overweight and I want to lose fat and build muscle. So is it ok to do a fat loss workout alongside a strength/bodybuilding workout?

Adding more muscle tissue actually helps to burn more fat so the two workouts do work together.

I have no gyms in my area, I would want to find someone to spar and train with but there is no one willing. How far wil strength conditioning and sped take me in defending myslef. Like if I put all my effort into this instead of technique. I would use heavy bags, and all sorts of tools to achieve this.

As a third degree black belt in akido and a trained boxer i would say strength training and conditioning is all you need. If you have an adequate weight and are in peak condition for the endurance needed, you will be set. People are only needed to really practice moves upon which is required eventually, but to defend yourself all you really need is to require a knowledge of the body and become mentally tough. Any person of any shape can defend themself properly if necessary. Read up on techniques and martial arts such as Kali and Akido which are defense arts, you do not have to take these martial arts just read techniques and exercises. Everything is mental, so being aware of your environment and being able to control your body from panic or stress can become the perfect defensive tool. Keep yourself safe, and good luck brother.

I’m in the middle of crossroads on whether to go into the military or college but am getting in as best shape as possible so i can be ready for if i choose military. I understand in basic they have miles upon miles of road marches and running and tons of other physical activity. I ran 4 miles yesterday and 2 today and it feels like i got hit by a train. How can all these people go in there so out of shape and do hard exercise every single day?

Andre is pretty much correct.

Also keep in mind tha vast majority of kids shoeing up for basic are out of shape. They start you off easy and work up. Of course the better in shape you show up the better it will be on you.

I like to do cardio workout for every 2-3 days i do free weight. Should i build muscle first then do cardio’? I want to be cut and lean at the same time.

Hope this help,

I am considering buying My Fitness Coach for WII but I dont know what else I’m going to need to buy in order to be able to play the game.

Well Weights would be a huge help.

Most exercises even though you can say you don’t own weights you kinda do to get any kind of effect on your body.

Also Optional equipment not required though are

Step Bench
Heart Monitor
Weights — probably should buy

I’m doing a long walk in 4 months time and I don’t want to stop training cause I’ll lose the fitness I’ve built up over the past 6 months. I also have a wedding to attend in 3 weeks and I can’t afford to put on any weight before this. So I need to keep exercising at my previous intensity for both these reasons but have hit a wall and don’t want to do it. What can I do? How do I get through the mental barrier?

i know of a secret that will give you more energy. Eating raw meat will give your muscles more creatine hydrate, which is used by the body to initiate and continue muscle movement. It doesn’t cause health problems at all and is simply a supplement to your natural everyday creatine production, which runs out from time to time when exercising a lot. The creatine you buy in stores is creatine phosphate, which is the solid digestible form that turns into creatine hydrate in stomach acids. look it up in an encyclopedia if you are nervous, but it is a supplement, like vitamins and amino acids, and does not work like DHEA and Anabolic steroids which stimulate cellular division. Again, the creatine in stores is a cleaner way to eat raw meat for the benifits.
Taking it is necessary for atheletes whether they know it or not, because creatine is vaporized easily and is low in cooked meat. animals always seem fine. hope i have helped.

The University of South Florida offers an online program for personal training and it’s $259 per course (5 course to become certified) Can’t I just order study materials and take the certification exam on my own and it be cheaper? Does anyone know if there are any differences in the two certificates? They look the same to me but doing it on my own would be WAY cheaper. Thanks for any advice in this matter.

Try American Council of Exercise (ACE ) at http://www.acefitness.org/getcertified/certification_pt.aspx
It should cost you $250 in total.

I remember when I used to strength train, my teacher told me there were two different kinds of strength training. One was where you used weights, and the other was where you used your own body as resistance. I want to know what the latter is called. Exercises like push-ups and pull-ups, where your using your own body as resistance would fit into this category, but I forgot the name for it. Do you know?

self resistance training

My goals are size and strength.

I do both weight training and cardio – alternating 3 days weight training, 3 days cardio, and 1 day rest.

My weight training workout alternates between 3 sets each of two muscle groups, and then doing the same again but through different exercises, for a total of 12 sets per day, not including abs which are included in every weight training session. For example, one day might be 3 groups of BENCH – (quick rest) – CURLS, followed by 3 groups of CHINUPS – (quick rest) – FLYS.

Sets normally consist of about 12, 10, and 8 reps to fatigue.

Also, is muscle soreness a good indicator of resting that group that day?

For Size and strenght I would recommend bumping up the weight and lowering the reps. Move to more days of lifting and shift your cardio to interval speed training. Also shift your routine every 4-6weeks or whe you plateau.

My week currently consists of
MON: Chest/Tri
TUE: Lowerbody/Core
WED: Back/shoulders
THUR:Cardio/Core
FRI:Chest/Bi
SAT:Lowerbody/Core
SUN:OFF

Do 3-4 exercises for each muscle group, 5-10 reps per. your last rep (especially your last 2 sets) should be to the point of muscle failure. I like to pyramid the large muscles ie chest, quads, hams going form higher reps to lower and increasing wieght, somehting like a 8-5-5-3 with the last set at 90% of your 1RM.
You will want to take a longer break in between sets to let your muscles recover.

Also look into a good supplement stack. You need 1.5-2g of protein per pound of bdoy wight minimum, creatine is a good supp, as well as various amino acids such as glutamine, arganine, etc. Feed your body to grow.

Cardio move to a speed interval training…5 min wamrup and then 90seconds at 60-75% of max speed, then 30-60 seconds at 100%, then repeat for 5-8 reps, cool down. Don;t forget to work your entire core – not just abs and do not neglect your legs. squats and deadlifts are probably the two best all around lifts you can do, PERIOD! I don;t hit both on the same day, squat one, dead another.

You should be sore somewhat…but honestly your body should be adapting to the lifitng and soreness is minimal. If not you maybe be over training. Supplements will help with recovery time too.

Ever wonder this? Obviously anorexia nervosa is a recognized mental disorder that can lead to death. But, why isn’t extreme bodybuilding? You know where men take steroids and looking so unaturally buff and extremely unhealthy. I mean obviously anorexia nervosa and exteme bodybuilding are caused by emotional, biological, and environmental factors. But I just don’t understand why extreme body building isn’t considered a mental disorder? Is it because you don’t have a chance of dying, unlike anorexia?

It is. Its called bigorexia.

Obsessed with the Perfect Body: Bigorexia

Interestingly, both male bulimics and body builders seem to be equally over-concerned with weight and shape. Both feel that body shape is just as important as friends or work. Furthermore, distortions in thinking can be seen by the fact that body builders are just as unhappy with their bodies as non athlete male bulimics, which leads many to anabolic steroid use to get bigger, leaner, and more muscular. These men feel too small and want to increase the size of various upper body parts at any cost. It is no wonder that some have termed this obsession as "reverse anorexia," "bigorexia," or "muscle dysmorphia." Researchers believe that this is a form of body dysmorphic disorder, a disorder whereby a person feels they are physically flawed despite appearing perfectly normal. This may also be related to the condtion called obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is on the spectrum that includes bulimia nervosa.
