Everyone has to start somewhere and whether a person decides to become a bodybuilder for health reasons, for sport, or to look good, the same thing applies to him/her. While a bodybuilding workout is designed to tear down muscles then build and bulk them up, a beginner has to start by strengthening the muscles and increasing his flexibility level. This person begins by going into something called a light weight training program. However, before picking up even the lightest weight, the trainee has to remember to do stretching exercises. The recommended schedule is a week of 3 alternate days doing 45 minutes of stretching prior to day of the weight lifting session and a 15 – 30 minute stretching exercise before starting the session. The exercises themselves must concentrate on the areas of the arms, abdomen, chest, back and legs since these are the muscle groups that will work hardest of all. Once this is done, the exercise regimen should continue alternating with the weight training sessions. Thus, while the trainee undergoes stretching exercises on, for example, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; he will also undergo a bodybuilding workout program on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And as the workout program alternates with the exercise program, the workout programs themselves alternate with each other. This is highly recommended by experts because doing so keeps the program from becoming a monotonous routine. It is their opinion that the following schedules be alternated by the trainee:On day one, the trainee does 5 sets of 5 squats, 5 sets of 5 bench presses and 1 set of 5 dead lifts, using the weights that the trainee can lift comfortably. On the next weight training day, the trainee does 5 sets of 5 squats, 5 sets of 5 overhead presses and 3 pull-ups until he fails. In order to build a strong and healthy body in preparation to an intensive weight training program, this light weight training program must be maintained for several weeks until the trainee feels that he can begin lift heavier weights without injury.
