If you completely extend your arms in front of you for curls, you hit the bicep, forearm and wrists in one motion. Then you can switch into a palms up row and nail the lats and tricep.
Best of all, if you bring your hands together fully extended in front of you for starting and finishing all these upper body exercises, you work out the inner pecs which are probably the hardest muscles in the human body to build.

@EasierToFallBehind I own this type of machine, the leg work outs are limited. They include an ankle strap with most systems but most exercises proposed are cumbersome and unpleasant. You can however hit the thighs by doing squats on the plate and use the strap for doing inclined knee curls on your stomach.

I think all in all, these machines hit every single muscle that exists in your body incredibly well except for the butt.

Can anyone tell me if it’s possible to do leg exercises with this? I know it’s possible with some similar products (e.g. Total Gym), but only upper body exercises are shown here.

@ellonysman this machine will definitely help you get leaner, but don’t think it will give you much mass compared to free weights.

  • TheRealEasy1 says:

@ellonysman This will definitely build muscles. Just remember that you will get out of it, what you put into it. In my opinion, this machine is top notch, but not a full replacement for free weights.

For slim guys out of shape like me will this unit build some muscle tone or does it take over a year of use to get it to show anything?

I’ve owned a DLX model for a couple of years, and I highly recommend it. Especially good for us older folks because there is not any extra weight pressing down on your spine like when using free weights. Only problem I’ve had is one of the rollers wore out, but you can buy a new set of 4 rollers for about 25 dollars.

I heard that if you buy one of these Chuck Norris comes to your house and kicks your ass

  • somps33 says:

@alanckaye I just got my DLXIII and love it. Chuck Norris won me over…..for this type of machine and many exercise ideas for my Total Trainer…..but not for the Total Gym itself which is over a grand! I got my TT direct for 461$ with shipping.

I had a total gym several years ago when they only made one model and I used it a lot but also had free weights. After selling the total gym I missed it because it gives you not only strength training but cardio at the same time. I just ordered this gym so I can compare. I think with the joint problems I have from a life of playing sports and running, this kind of thing will at least get me strong enough to go back to free weights. Thanks for the video and comments.

personally i prefer using bars and dumbells

  • augi3 says:

II got it because a comparable total gym would cost thousands more.. On the TT, it takes some use to getting to because of the slant of the board; plus it’s always rolling. I wouldn’t recommend this machine if you’re older and haven’t used exercise machines. before. Otherwise, this machine can support 370 lbs plus. My chest and shoulders really popped within a few days of use of this thing. Unless you’re super fit now, I don’t think you’ll need another machine. It is solidly put together.

eh, the video skipping all the time is an annoyance.
    still, thanks- good upload

    @sarenfroe
Yep, that’s where I bought mine. LUCKILY, they also refunded all my money! I like the fact I was able to try ALL the models first in their showroom too. But after trying (and buying) the Bayou model, I couldn’t even stand the Total Gym.

I went out on a limb and bought the Total Gym (Similar Product) for $75 used and it actually works. I had my doubts, but I felt the soreness in my muscles the next day. This seems to be a better product as far as adding more weight, so I may have to rig some sort of method to add more weight to my gym.

To be honest though I wouldn’t buy these brand new, often times people buy these home gyms and they sit around gathering dust, such is the case with the previous owner. Check craigslist.

Ive had the single aluminum pro model for around 2-3 years, works mostly core strength, & has increased my strength BIG TIME, there prodcuts ARE legit, VERY well made, VERY durable, & I second what vertigo says lol total gym isnt even close, far lessssss, & lots more exspensive, I highly recomend.

I was wondering if buying the Total Gym XL is the best way to go but it seems so expensive, anybody have any suggestions, I like Bayou but I dont know anybody with one of their home gyms, anybody got some ideas?

  • gilgamesh1962 says:

Buddy of mine has Total Gym, I own the Bayou, The Bayou is by far better built, plus this video is of an earlier version, the newer model has clips on the platform part which allows the cables to be attached there allowing different cable angle.
there are even more expensive models, but if you compare entry level Bayou with Entry level Total Gym, the Bayou is way better period. Im a tall guy 6′2″ and the Total Gym is smaller than the Bayou.

I have the TT5000 and as an ex pro athlete I can tell you this machine can sure handle pressure. By the time I get off mine the rail underneath is really warm and yet I’ve never had to replace and component in the 6 years I’ve had it. Oh it craps all over a similarly priced total gym.

  • crimsonhaz3 says:

Great product, I own one. I wanted a total gym but that thing was way too expensive, so I got this for $350, great deal.
