The qualification process for each is quite different. The gym instructors usualy only do a 4-12 day qualification couse as aposed to most studio instructors who usually complete a more comprehensive 12-18 month course depending on the institute.

The best thing to do is to ask who they are qualified through and ask how long their pilates course was. APMA instructors are required to complete intensive courses to a very high standard.

You can make the desision on what you would like to do, pactice under an instructor that has 4 day or 18 months of training.
References :
I'm a Physiotherapist that works in a Pilates studio and I treat a lot of injuries because of the underqualified instructors currently working in the gyms as more "fitness based Pilates" instructors. There is a big difference in what you will be practising with each instructor. Go the more qualified option.

What is the difference between Pilates in a gym and Pilates in a studio?
I've heard that Pilates in a gym is not real Pilates and that is wasn't very safe.
